Hungary has a unique system with 19 county vignettes and national options. Here's how to pick the cheapest suitable variant.
Hungary's vignette system is one of the most flexible in Europe. You can buy a national vignette for the whole country or a much cheaper county vignette for just one of the 19 counties.
The categories
- D1M: motorcycles
- D1: cars up to 3.5 t and 7 seats
- D2: larger vehicles, vans ≤ 3.5 t, vehicles with 8+ seats
- U: trailer towed by a D2 vehicle
National vs. county
The national annual vignette costs significantly more than a single county. People living near a border or visiting only one region often pay less with two county vignettes.
Validity
Daily, 10-day, monthly and annual vignettes are available. The 10-day vignette is the standard choice for tourists passing through Budapest.
